The CMP Program has a number of Club M1 Garand rifles to be used by Club members
only when the following provisions have been met.:
- The shooter must be a Club member.
-
The shooter must have previously participated
in a CMP match or have taken a CMP workshop
-
The shooter must be familiar with the M1
Garand rifle and be able to safely demonstrate how to load, unload, make safe,
and fire the rifle.
-
If the shooter is not familiar with the M1
Garand rifle, they may attend our workshop conducted on the 4th Saturday in
March. The workshop will be held on
March 24th, 2007 this season. We will
introduce new shooters to the M1 Garand rifle. At the end of the course the shooter will be able to safely load,
unload, make safe, and shoot the M1 rifle from Offhand, Sitting, Kneeling, and
Prone positions using a military or web sling. Upon completion of the course the shooter will be able to fully
participate in the CMP matches and use a Club rifle.
-
It must be emphasized that the M1 Garand rifle
weighs 10-pounds empty and is chambered in .30-06 caliber. Please consider the age, experience, and
abilities of any shooter wishing to shoot a large, heavy, hard-recoiling rifle.
-
Any shooter who uses a Club M1 Garand rifle
must stay after the match and clean the rifle that they used. This will take approximately
30-minutes after the match.
